Verus Unveils New Rear Wings For 86 Platform
Eric Hazen

It’s an exciting time in the world of GR86 performance mods. Following our recent success with the FA24 oil pan, we are now introducing a new series of rear wings for the 86 platform. GR86 and Subaru BRZ owners now have a choice of three wings with a new and improved mounting system. Learn more about the wings, how they were made, and how to choose the right one for your car.

Why Did We Create New GR86 Wings?

This swan-neck UCW rear wing is one of three wing options Verus Engineering offers for the 86 platform.

While our normal process involves improving the performance of factory cars and components, in this case, we aimed to enhance our own design. While we stand behind the performance of our original UCW bottom-mount wing, we listened to our customers and realized we needed to improve how it attaches to the trunk.

We are thrilled with the results and think you will be, too. We’ve developed an entirely new design featuring new trunk mounts, trunk support plates, and uprights. During the process, we decided to give you, our fellow 86 enthusiast, more wing options. We’ve created a new high-efficiency wing and swan neck version of our UCW wing. You can now choose from:

We think you’ll agree that our new mounting system is easier to install and looks better than our previous one.

Which GR86 Wing Is Right For You?

Now that you have three options, which GR86 wing will you choose? Let’s take a look at each one to help you decide.

UCW Bottom-Mount Wing

Version 2 of our original UCW bottom-mount rear wing for the 86 platform.

Our original GR86 wing is new and improved with our modified mounting system. There are a couple of advantages to the bottom mount. No. 1, it’s a little easier for us to produce, so we pass on the savings to you. The price is a bit lower, and this design also allows for more angle of attack (AOA) adjustments compared to the top mount.

UCW Top-Mount (Swan Neck) Wing

Verus Engineering's new swan-neck UCW rear wing for the 86 platform.

GR86 enthusiasts now have a swan-neck option for our UCW rear wing.

Our new swan-neck version results in a slight efficiency improvement because it eliminates the airflow disruption on the bottom side of the airfoil. You can expect a 5-7% performance boost. There are fewer AOA adjustment options, and the price is slightly higher, but this wing offers the greatest amount of downforce. It’s also a style that is most popular today.

High-Efficiency Wing

Experience less drag and a stunning, OEM-like fit with our new GR86 high-efficiency rear wing.

Our new high-efficiency GR86 wing is a perfect complement to our current front aero offerings. It offers some AOA adjustments, and you can front- or rear-bias the car as you wish. You’ll experience less drag than the UCW and a more OEM-like look as the smaller size is a nice fit for the GR86 chassis.

If you’re new to track driving, the UCW may be the better choice as it results in a more rear-biased setup, which is safer for beginners. On the other hand, the high-efficiency wing might be your best option when trying to maximize straightaway speed and lower lap times. What you choose depends on your goals, driving style, experience, and where you’ll be driving.
