C8 Modifications: Why Use A Brake Duct Block-Off Kit?

If you’re having trouble getting your C8 Stingray’s aftermarket brakes up to operating temperature on track day, Verus Engineering has a solution. Our brake duct block-off kit stops unwanted airflow over big brake kits and offers additional performance gains. Learn why we created this simple yet effective C8 modification and when to use it.

Why We Created The C8 Stingray Block-Off Kit

Block airflow and get aftermarket brakes up to operating temperature quickly for high-speed track applications.

If you know the Verus team, you know we enjoy being on the track, testing new mods, and getting feedback from drivers. During one of our test sessions, Aaron Liechty from Winning Formula noticed a difficulty getting his C8’s track-specific brake pads up to operating temperature.

Verus worked with Aaron Liechty from Winning Formula in the development of the C8 block-off kit.

It didn’t take too long to discover that GM’s large brake ducting, while excellent for street driving, did too good a job for our high-speed track application. We needed to find a way to block the excess airflow. As a result, the brake duct block-off kit was born.

Our Solution is Durable, Reversible, and Improves Performance

Our C8 brake duct block-off plates can be removed in seconds.

In typical Verus fashion, we solved the problem while adding performance benefits. We created 3D-printed carbon nylon block-off plates that easily clip into the factory brake cooling ducts. It’s important to note that these plates are completely reversible, meaning you can quickly remove them when your track session is over.

You Get More Performance Benefits From Verus

Verus Engineering's C8 brake duct block-off plates clip into place with no tape or hardware required.

Your track-specific brakes will get up to operating temperature faster, but you’ll also enjoy additional performance gains. When testing a C8 Stingray equipped with our Ventus 3 package, we discovered:

  • Total downforce increased by 4%

  • Drag decreased by 0.8%

  • Front aero balance increased by 5%

Overall, this simple yet effective mod improves efficiency (L/D) and aero balance, clips in easily, and holds up well thanks to its durable carbon-nylon construction.

Brake Duct Block-Off Should Only Be Used For Specific Track Applications

We understand it might seem counterintuitive to restrict airflow to your brakes. After all, overheating can reduce your stopping power and prematurely wear components. Our brake duct block-off kit is not for regular street driving or every track application. It’s specifically for drivers running much larger calipers and track-specific pads, especially at higher speeds.

Important: Our brake duct block-off kit should only be used if you are completely confident in your brake system’s heat-management capabilities and operating temperatures. Please proceed with caution when reducing cooling capacity.
